(for ages 5 and up)
There are a few things to consider about starting percussion or online drum lessons.
Most students want to start off playing the kit. If that’s where the desire is, that’s the direction to take. Do what makes you happy!
However, it is also fine, and very common, to start off with some sticks and a practice pad. This is an inexpensive way to start learning some basic rhythms. If you choose to go this direction, we would recommend getting a kit within 3 to 4 months after starting. It’s just a whole lot more exciting, and will keep the student’s interest strong!
By nature, drums are loud! To preserve the ears, we recommend using shooter muffs or earplugs when playing for a long period of time. You can also practice by running a backing track through headphones!
Electronic drums are also an option. Depending on your living situation (and your desire to preserve a relationship with your neighbors!) it’s nice to be able to turn the volume up or down.
A typical lesson starts with a few warm-up exercises and you will be playing your favorite song in no time! There are multiple styles to choose from, including Classical drumming, Pop Drumming, or Rock Drum Lessons. The best part is our personal drum teachers pick the rhythm of your choice.
Drum lessons are a great way to have fun while learning; it’s highly motivating and teaches students how to listen. Our drum instructors will teach you how to play your favorite song through our personalized online drum lessons.
What we do is focus on making the student feel engaged and comfortable. We don't want them just sitting down there like a statue - no!
